CARRICHEL LIM
Carrichel favours bold colours and stylised shapes in her drawings. The mundane would be painted imaginatively in bright colours, and simple forms animated in fun shapes. Discover her detailed illustrations expressed in her vibrant perspective.
In St Andrew’s Cathedral, Carrichel reinterprets the cathedral’s Gothic arches through layers of colour and pattern. Her mixed-media composition replaces stone tracery with vibrant, mosaic-like motifs — transforming the solemn façade into a celebration of faith, light, and renewal. The intricate markings echo stained glass filtering through time, revealing how sacred architecture can inspire both structure and spirit.
This cathedral is Singapore’s oldest surviving Anglican church, named after Scotland’s patron saint in honour of Scottish benefactors. The original neoclassical structure, completed in 1836, was later rebuilt in a Neo-Gothic style under Lieutenant-Colonel Ronald MacPherson. During World War II, it served as a makeshift hospital amid the conflict.
