KEVIN LIM
A self-taught artist, Kevin has been making art since he was a toddler. Though his favourite medium is ink on paper, he is also very passionate about building models of airplanes, MRT trains and architecture. These models are made from an eclectic mix of discarded cartons, paper packaging, old Lego sets and old toys. His current collection is so huge it has filled his entire home!
In French Windows on Emerald Hill, Kevin captures the intricate charm of Peranakan architecture through the simplicity of pencil. Each line is deliberate yet gentle, revealing floral carvings, shutters, and arches with quiet precision. His monochrome study strips away colour to focus on rhythm and detail, inviting viewers to appreciate the craftsmanship and calm elegance that define Singapore’s heritage homes.
Many shophouses on Emerald Hill feature full-length French windows - double wooden shutters that open outwards – designed to maximise airflow in Singapore’s tropical climate. These windows are often unglazed and represent adapted versions of Western-style windows suited to local needs.
