EZRA CHAN YI
Ezra is always ready with a smile. He doodles all the time. His doodling interests range from pigeons to seaweed, to daily scenes. Ezra also expresses well with his abstract executions – a riot of colours and shapes – possibly a glimpse of how his mind visualises his surroundings.
In 1920s Tiong Poh Road, Ezra reimagines a familiar Singapore landmark through bold colour and geometric rhythm. His mixed-media canvas bursts with vivid reds, yellows, and blues — a modern mosaic that celebrates the optimism of early shophouse architecture. Each block and line feels alive, translating the Art Deco charm of the 1920s into a contemporary visual language of energy and renewal. Ezra’s work bridges past and present, reminding us that heritage, like colour, never truly fades.
Built in the 1920s as part of Singapore’s first public housing estate in Tiong Bahru, these flats reflect the Art Deco style with clean lines and curved balconies. Once home to working-class families, the blocks remain a symbol of early community life and Singapore’s heritage in modern housing.
